Hypnosis to Stop Smoking
The first thing you have to ask yourself is "am I the one who really wants to quit, or am I just doing this for someone else?" The reason this question is important is because hypnosis works by assisting us achieve the things that WE desire in our life.
So even though we may really care about the person asking us to quit, if we are only doing hypnosis to make them happy or even just to get them off our back, then our full desire is not with smoking cessation. Instead we will find that our desire is actually with pleasing the other person or just trying to get away from nagging!
An example is awhile back a certain person I will call John was talking to me because he was interested in hypnosis but felt it didn't work for him. As I continued talking with him I learned that he had tried hypnosis in the past for smoking cessation. "oh sure, I went quite a few times" he told me as he lit up a smoke, "and it didn't help one bit". So I asked him, "why did you decide to try hypnosis?" He smiled, "oh my wife set it all up and begged me to do it." "Oh?" I asked him "Did you want to stop smoking?" "Oh hell no! I love smoking!"
Hypnosis is not brain washing or mind control. It's not going to make you do anything that you don't want to do. We have to be the one making the decision.

So how can hypnosis help me stop smoking?
Smoking is actually a habit, and habits are stored and maintained in our subconscious mind.
The thing with habits is there really is only a few ways to change them. The main one we hear about is repetition. It is known that it takes about 30 days of repeating a new action to form a new habit. This works well but it takes a strong will to maintain the new desired action until it gets locked into being a habit.
Another way is through a highly emotionalized event or trauma. When a very emotional or traumatic event happens, our subconscious mind opens right up. In that split instant what ever belief or idea we decide about our self or our safety jumps right into our open subconscious. An examples of this would be like when someone has a near death experience and then they all of a sudden they "turn their life around". Or they will say they have "had a wake up call".
The easier route to changing our unwanted habits is through hypnosis. Hypnosis creates an environment where our mind and body can relax and allow us to move past our critical factor (our barrier that keeps our subconscious safe) and enter into our subconscious and even superconscious mind. Since this is where our habits reside, we can then look at the true reason for our habit and then make a new decision about it based on who we are now. This means we can understand the core reason for smoking and then create new healthy habits.
